Virgin Bombers coach James Hird has denied that Mark "Bomber" Thompson is signed, sealed and delivered to be his Senior Assistant coach at the Bombers next year. But haven't we heard these denials from Hird before? 

When Hird was constantly quizzed about the Bombers coaching position towards the end of last season we heard an array of denials and no comments from Hird, only to be delivered to the public and Bomber fans as the new coach within weeks. So will this current denial end up the same way, in a word, yes.

Bomber Thompson will be returning to his spiritual home within weeks after having a good break away, and will be assisting Hird in preparations for season 2011. And make no mistake, Thompson will be a very senior authority in the Essendon Coaching ranks, even though he will only be officially a part-time employee. Hird, on his coaching "L" plates will be seeking guidance from Thompson every step of the way, particularly on gameday tactics.
