So we are well on our way to the first race of the 2010 F1 season opener in Bahrain. There have been three of four testing rounds already this year and with the 4 new teams it’s been full of bustle up and down the pit lane. With the 4 new teams there have come some new rule changes as well. The biggest change would be not to allow fuel stops during the race. Although it may seem like a small change it will have big implications to cars in many ways. Cars now have to hold a huge amount of fuel to finish a race, so bigger fuel tanks are needed which increase the length of the car. Also with more fuel comes more weight, more weight means more stress on tyres and brakes. McLaren and Red Bull have taken to these changes a little better than most so far through testing.
The last test at Jerez saw Jensen Button in the McLaren fastest with a time of 1.18.87 with Aussie Mark Webber just behind with a 1.19.299. The new Red Bull is definitely fast but can the team fix a few reliability problems that have been plaguing the car before the start of the season? Red Bull only have one more testing round left at Barcelona’s circuit De Catalunya to do so and then off to the first round in Bahrain. The wait is almost over....
