Rafael Nadal recaptured the French Open crown, gaining revenge over Robin Soderling with a 6-4 6-2 6-4 win and, in so doing, he also retook the world No.1 spot from Roger Federer. Rafael has now won more grand slam titles at the age of 24 than Roger had at the same age and he did it in style, not losing a single set throughout the tournament. He showed a great deal of emotion at the end of the match, but anyone who stayed to watch it would agree it was never in doubt.
I’m sure I will cop it for saying this but I truly believe Sam Stosur choked in her final at Roland Garros. I guess the pressure that came with defeating the likes of Henin, Williams and Jankovic saw her the overwhelming odds on favorite to take the title, which in the end It was touch much to handle. I notice she said in her press conference she played well and was just not good enough, but I disagree, she played nowhere near the quality tennis she produced in the 3 preceding games.
Hopefully she will learn from this and handle the pressure better in future because she definitely has the game to be at the very top.
