Melbourne Cup winner Shocking gets his chance at a rare feat in racing on Saturday if he can win the Australian Cup at Flemington. Only the great Let’s Elope and Makybe Diva have completed the Melbourne Cup – Australian Cup double. Shocking is favourite for the event after two encouraging runs this time in, particularly his closing sixth behind La Rocket in the St George stakes last start. He will be a lot fitter for the two runs and is now getting out to a preferable distance of 2000m. I still can’t get the Melbourne cup run out of my mind where he sat three deep without cover most of the way and still won easy. I love the horse and will find something for him on Saturday, and don’t be surprised to see him salute in again on the first Tuesday in November.
